Muscat: Muscat Municipality will soon launch electric motorbikes, which will be utilized for cleaning operations.

The new bikes were showcased at the recently held Climate Week 2026 and the Municipality said that these bikes will help reducing emissions, enhancing the sustainability of municipal services, lowering operating costs.

The bikes will have a range of 140-160 km range, more stable LFP batteries, 14 battery swapping station locations, and a 5.6 kWh total battery capacity.

The bikes will have IoT + SIM card for tracking and management.

The charging stations will be launched in phase 1 in Al Qurum, Al Ghubra, and Al Khoudh Souq.

Muscat Municipality and Thimar Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for expanding the network of electric bike battery swapping stations in Muscat Governorate. This will serve the delivery sector and support the shift towards more efficient and sustainable modes of transport.

The initiative includes deploying standardized battery swapping stations in several strategic locations within Muscat Governorate to provide an integrated infrastructure that supports the operation of electric bikes and contributes to strengthening the sustainable delivery system.
